This illustration was made for a Dutch magazine called Hollands Diep. The artwork was meant to accompany an article about ‘happiness’ written by psychologist and cultural anthropologist Ad Bergsma. Deleo was inspired by the botanical drawings of Maria Sybilla Merian. She was a German scientific illustrator in the seventeenth century. The pictured plant grows and attracts all kinds of elements representing happiness and is called Fortuna Fragilis ( Latin for Frail Fortune ).
